Hanging Bridges, Expedia Scam

Updated: 3 days ago

Today was chaotic.

Let's start with# 1:

Arenal Private Tours La Fortuna 1/2 day hike to Hanging Bridges

$75 pp

Mistico Hanging Bridges (independent) Guided Tour $48

Booked on Expedia

My cousin chose not to come which is fine, so I booked 1 person. They confirmed the night prior for pickup, but when Victor showed up, he said that they figured I would pay for 2 people otherwise I would cancel.

Excuse me? Ya'll confirmed my ONE person payment last night and here you are with me up at 630 am refusing to honor the excursion because I paid the requested amount and you expected me to pay double?

I was certainly getting mad and my voice raised.

As the conversation continued, I explained that I wasn't worried about the refund because that was a guarantee, but he kept saying he refuses to take one person and Expedia should have known.

Well, here we are! Ready to go and you cancel?!

When I reached out to Expedia later that day, they sent me a screenshot of Victor's reason why he canceled and him stating how I was so rude, THREATENED him and I REFUSED to go on the tour. Oh, trust, they all heard from me after that one!

And while now I'm left at the front office trying to find my own way to the bridges, I fired my pet sitter. She missed 3 days taking care of my babies! You are FIRED.

...breathe

So I when to Mistico Hanging Bridges, paid the $48 for a guided tour and spent 3 hours walking thru the rainforest. I DO NOT recommend going without a guide-you will miss all the creatures from tarantulas, to poison dart frogs to vipers. There aren't many monkeys or sloths so don't expect to see them.

It was a good tour-I made it without any mosquito bites!

I then ate at their restaurant which is reasonably priced and great selection.

Back to the hotel for White Water Rafting.

Costa Rican Descents

$ 65 pp+ $10 tip

Now that was fun. The water wasn't cold and we got all overcast. Warner and the 2 other guides were great.

It ended up being another family with us- a Pakistani family with the dad and 2 teenage girls. Dad was upfront first but he never listened to commands so the guide moved me up to the front instead and him (the Dad) next to himself (the guide).

In the end, the girls fell into the water! The youngest was caught quickly but as we were stuck on the rock and almost capsized, the other sister floated downstream.

Luckily as the boat was doing a lateral move stuck on the rock, I helped with my body weight and returned the boat back to normal as the guide was now outside the boat standing on the rock and we were going nowhere unless into the water.

The young one fell in again later on. Photos were an extra $40 split between the groups.

My cousin and I returned to the city center after a quick snack with the team. We shopped a little and found some nice paintings and jewelry to buy along with a coffee shop.

Originally thinking I had the Rio Celeste all day tour in the AM, we went back to the hotel around 8pm and I hung out in the pool for the evening.

Unfortunately, I didn't receive info about the tour so I saw the booking on Expedia, there was no contact info so I went to their website and they confirmed:

I am not on their tour and they do not work with Expedia.

Expedia didn't know what happened and refunded me. So no tour tomorrow.
