Day 8a: Nightlife, Medicine and Uber

Updated: May 29, 2023

Good day yesterday, but that bed is hard! I woke up with pains everywhere! As the day went on , a headache grew and of course: back pains, neck pains, runny nose, funny throat and headache - you start thinking about COVID. When I had it in January, again, caught it from a couple who were fully vaccinated (they were sicker than I or my bf was), I had a sinusitis that turned into a headache. I never had a cough and I was greedy AF - eating everything. SO I was unusual. But my throat has been feeling funny (or really it's my chest) since COVID. I have not taken my allergy meds for 2 days and going from humid to chilly AC (I really don't like AC) of course I sniff. And that hard ass bed mixed with heavy exercise the day prior (boxing and salsa), yeah I'd be hurting. Temp was normal.

Anyways, I continue on.

A couple of students and I went out to Brije last night and I had their limon pie - it really is lemon custard over graham cracker crumbs - but omg was it amazing!!!!

So one thing I found out while here - Uber is actually illegal. So now I understand why they yell to sit in the front seat. If you get pulled over, you act like you know them, just say FRIENDS and remember the name from the app. Ubers are safe, some people (including myself) thought that was a good way to steal people lol. Anyway is a good way to steal people. But it's all good.

I came prepared with drugs - for headache, stomach ache, food poisoning, COVID headache. But if you are not as fortunate as me having the 'basics' or you need more of or forgot something (as I probably will), there are drogoterias everywhere. Most overseas countries are not so restrictive on meds like the US. I'm not saying you will find some highly controlled fentanyl in the store, but basic necessities that are a little stronger, yes. And these stores are on corners with a store front. SO no worries, even if you don't speak the language. Knowing the trade name (ie. Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, diphenhydramine) is beneficial - usually they throw an 'A' at the end and it's the same thing.

Another thing I was able to see last night - between Carrera 32-39 between Calle 7-10B, only restaurants and night clubs are opened. It's a poppin' area and you then see the drag queens/LGBTQ groups and the alternatives and half naked chicas (as well as men TBH) around 8pm. Restaurants are slow paced so have a drink and chill, they have no rush to get you out. But it's loud everywhere. Although very safe everywhere. It's not my scene but we decided to walk around a bit for an appetite. So if you are ready to mingle, and sing, and dance and drink in a cool colorful environment, go there- they block off some streets for patio sitting too (the one with the theater is a famous closed street).

Well, it's time for me to start my day. One 4 hour group Spanish course followed by a 2 hour private course. Then a trip to Santa Elena. I'm excited. Guatape for Sunday (switched to using the school instead of a travel app).
